The Boys Brigade (Queensland)

Establishment of The Boys Brigade.
The Boys Brigade was founded in the UK in 1883, and in Australia in 1980.

There are approximately 2,500 members in Queensland.

Aims and Purposes

The development of boys and young men into mature, responsible citizens and leaders and, in partnership with local churches, the provision of opportunities for - fun and friendship and a sense of belonging, balanced and stimulating programmes with choice of activities; personal development, sound adult role-modelling; service to the community.

Main Activities

A balanced weekly program of activities provides physical and spiritual development, and instruction in a wide variety of interests to boys. Other activities include such outdoor pursuits as camping, expedition, canoeing, abseiling and rock-climbing, and various sports, the level of adventure and challenge being relative to the ages of members. Leadership development and training in leadership skills is fundamental to the Brigade method, as is service to the community.
