Membership
In 2001
there are over 1200 cadet members who are supported by approximately
200 adult leaders. There are 39 cadet groups throughout Queensland.
Aims and Purposes
The
purpose of the State Emergency Service Cadet Program is to introduce
Queensland youth to forms of voluntary emergency service related
training, which will equip them for community life.
The aims
are:

To develop life
skills and encourage participation within local communities

To develop initative,
leadership, self-discipline and loyalty

To develop skills and
knowledge to assist during emergencies

To develop a
recruitment pool for emergency services
Main
Activities
SES
cadets are offered the opportunity to receive Certificate II in
Public Safety (SES Rescue) and Certificate II in Public Safety (SES
Operations).
The
curriculum comprises eleven core and elective training programs. The
training programs include many hands-on practical rescue skills. All
of the programs involve learning some theory and some skills and
require cadets to complete scenario exercises.
The core
training programs include – Induction, First Aid, General Rescue,
Building Safer Communities, Cadet Communications and Mentoring.
The
elective training programs include – Map Reading and Navigation,
Field craft, Land Search, Operations Centres and Boat Safety.
