Establishment of Surf Life Saving
There are 59 Surf Life Saving Clubs in Queensland, and 275 Australia wide. The first Surf Life Saving Clubs were established in 1907 and Surf Life Saving Queensland was established as a State Association in 1930.

Membership in Queensland
There are 26,000 members of Surf Life Saving Clubs, and 190,000 registered Supporter members in Queensland. Around 11,000 of these are youth.

Aims and Purposes
The primary ‘vision’ for Surf Life Saving Queensland is: ‘Zero Preventable Deaths and Injuries on Queensland Beaches’

The organisation aims to achieve this through the provision of high quality lifesaving and associated beach safety, and education services.

Main Activities
Surf Life Saving Queensland is a multi-faceted organisation encompassing areas such as Lifesaving and Rescue Services, Research and Development, Surf Sports, Training and Education, Research and Development and Delivering Rescue and First Aid Care.

Youth Programs
Youth and Membership is a major focus within Surf Life Saving Queensland and many development programs are in place throughout Queensland. These include;

  • Club Youth Development Programs

  • Branch/Regional Development Programs

  • State Junior Development Programs (Under 14 yrs)

  • Sate Cadet Development Programs (14-17 yrs)

  • State Leadership Development Program (18-25 yrs)

  • National Leadership Development Program (18-25 yrs)

  • Streets City Nippers – South Bank Beach (7-13 yrs)

  • National and International Exchange Programs

Become a Surf Life Saving Community Member.  The ausport Community Member Ironperson Challenge program is aimed at all primary school children, consisting of two skill level groups.
